Auburn host Troy in home opener

AUBURN, Alabama – Auburn (2-1) is scheduled to start its 2022 home schedule against Troy (4-0) Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.

“Whenever we face an opponent from the state, we always want to do good against each other,” the head coach said. Butch Thompson noted. “We come out of the gate on Wednesday and we have to be at our best.”

Wednesday marks the start of Auburn’s 73rd season at Plainsman Park.

Tigers are 6-0 in home openers under head coach Butch Thompson and outscored the opponent 55-13 during his tenure.

Wednesday’s game also begins a 17-of-18 series to be played at Plainsman Park.

Auburn went 15-6 against non-conference competition last year and is 67-21 (.761) against non-conference opponents in the regular season since the start of the 2018 season.

Auburn’s pitching staff allowed just five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in three games at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown to start the season.

Four earned runs were the fewest in three games against Power 5 competition since 2019 (Tennessee) and 10 hits were the fewest in three games since 2015 (Radford).

The Tigers finished the opening weekend ranked first in the SEC in hits allowed and opponent’s batting average (.127) and second in ERA (1.38).

Auburn is 56-23 against Troy, including 35-9 at Plainsman Park.

Wednesday marks the first meeting between the two teams since 2018.

Troy hosted Holy Cross in a four-game series and beat the Crusaders 44-8 in opening weekend.

The Trojans had 54 hits (0.380 average) in the four-game series, with five players scoring a six-or-over.

The pitching staff hit a 2.00 ERA in 36.0 innings and struck out 46 while walking 12.

Gates open one hour before the first throw.

Fans are encouraged to park in the Colosseum car park, the athletics complex car park and the ground floor of the stadium car park. The Auburn Arena parking lot will be closed due to the men’s basketball game.

Students planning to use the new outdoor viewing plaza in the center right do not need to enter through the main student gate and can bring outdoor food and beverages into the space.

Students wishing to sit inside the ballpark (sections 111 and 58-73) must enter through the door behind home plate. Students will use their digital Tiger Card on their phone to enter. They can no longer enter through the gate located at Tiger Terrace or right field, which has been moved approximately 30 feet from its original location.

All transactions for Plainsman Park concessions and outlets will be cashless (credit/debit and Tiger cards only).
