Cebu-based chess teams resume PCAP battle


CEBU CITY, Philippines — Four Cebu-based professional chess teams will resume their online chess campaigns at the Philippine Professional Chess Association (PCAP) Wesley So Cup conference on Wednesday July 7, 2021.

Lapu-Lapu City’s Naki Warriors, who sit eighth in the South Division standings with eight wins and 21 losses, will have the toughest task of the four.

They are set to face the top-ranked Camarines Soaring Eagles (24-5) (24-5) in their first game, then face the No.3 team, the Iloilo Kisela Knights (23-6), in their second game. .

The Naki Warriors are looking to bounce back from their dismal outing on Saturday, July 3, where they lost their two scheduled games.

Meanwhile, the top-ranked Cebu-based team Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors, (24-5) who sit second in the South Division standings, will play against No.7 team Palawan Queen’s Gambit. (9-20), and Squad # 10, the Mindoro Tamaraws (7-22).

The Toledo Trojans, who currently sit sixth in the standings, will face the No.5 team, the Zamboanga Sultans (17-12), and Surigao Fianchetto’s Checkmates (7-22), who are 11th in the standings. .

Like the Naki Warriors, the Trojans are eager to redeem their back-to-back losses in their previous scheduled games.

The Cebu City Machers (8-21), the No.9 team in the South Division, will also face the Fianchetto Checkmates in their first game and play against the No.4 team, the Negros Kingsmen (23-6).
