New Northern Colorado football team set for Round of 32 – CBS Denver

(CBS4) – The Northern Colorado Hailstorm is a new football team based in Windsor. The team is so new that they haven’t played a home game yet because their stadium is still under construction.

In their inaugural season, the Hailstorms played as underdogs against teams in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Founded in 1914, it is the oldest ongoing national football competition. Professional and amateur teams from across the country compete in the knockout tournament.

So far, Northern Colorado have beaten Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in a 1-0 game. In a big upset, the Hailstorm beat MLS team Real Salt Lake 1-0 to advance to the Round of 16. Head coach Éamon Zayed and his team are now looking forward to Wednesday night’s game against Union Omaha.

“They are going to have to fight for every bullet. They’re going to have to outplay Omaha…but listen, we’ve done it in the previous two rounds of the cup and we’ll do it again. Zayed said.

Kick-off of the hailstorm at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+

“Hopefully we can qualify for the knockout stages, create some history…and we can get the fans to come and support us. I can’t wait to go home.

The Northern Colorado Hailstorm will play its first home game on Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. against North Carolina FC.

The team will play at the huge Future Legends complex in Windsor.
