Six Manchester United players set to sign this summer as fans await their first addition

While Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have wasted no time splashing the cash in this summer’s transfer window so far, all has been quiet at Old Trafford.

Manchester United, despite desperately needing new additions this summer, have yet to complete their first signing of the summer, meaning some supporters’ frustrations are starting to mount. We’re just over a week into the window, but the level of activity at some of United’s rivals means the club are under increasing pressure to bring in their first summer signing.

United manager Erik ten Hag, who will face Brighton & Hove Albion in his first competitive game in charge in exactly seven weeks, is desperate to strengthen his squad and strengthen several areas. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is his top target but the Reds’ pursuit of the Dutchman is likely to drag on as the two clubs have yet to agree a transfer fee.

But while De Jong remains the club’s main priority at the moment, they are also linked with several other potential additions, including Ajax winger Antony and highly-rated Villarreal ace Pau Torres.

Frankie de Jong – 1/4

Most obvious of all. United are, unsurprisingly, heavy favorites to sign De Jong from Barcelona this summer, with bookmakers currently offering odds as short as 1/4 on a deal being struck.

The 25-year-old is one player Ten Hag is desperate to add to his arsenal and matches the style of play the former Ajax boss wants to instill at Old Trafford. Should a deal go through, he would be United’s standout signing this summer, especially as no Champions League football is on offer.

Anthony – 1/2

Since Ten Hag was installed as United’s new manager in April, reports linking Ajax winger Antony with a move to Old Trafford have increased dramatically. The Reds want to strengthen their right-wing options this summer and the 22-year-old Brazilian could be the perfect ticket.

According to the bookmakers, United are the current favorites to sign the skilful striker, who scored 12 goals and provided ten assists in 33 appearances for Ajax last season. Ten Hag knows the secret to getting the most out of him and he would be an exciting addition for United, with his Brazilian flair and trickery making him hugely entertaining to watch.

Paul Torres – 5/2

United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News last month consulted Ten Hag over the prospect of signing Villarreal centre-back Torres this summer as they look to bolster their central defensive options. The Spaniard was on the club’s radar last summer and was ready to make a move for him if their attempts to sign Raphael Varane failed.

Spain and Villarreal central defender Pau Torres

Torres, who is also heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, is considered one of La Liga’s best centre-backs and enjoyed a productive 2021/22 campaign, helping Villarreal reach the Champions League semi-finals and to mark. six goals. United are the current second favorites to sign him this summer and would benefit greatly from his defensive qualities, as well as his ability to participate with goals from behind.

Denzel Dumfries – 6/1

Aaron Wan-Bissaka having been deemed surplus to requirements, United, as things stand, will enter the new season with just Diogo Dalot as their only senior right-back meaning he should be a priority for them to strengthen this area of the team. The Inter Milan ace Dumfries has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Christian Eriksen – 7/4

As reported by Manchester Evening News United are keen to bring Eriksen to Old Trafford this summer but face competition from Tottenham. The Dane is currently on course to become a free agent at the end of the month after turning down a new contract at Brentford, although the Bees are refusing to give up in hopes of keeping him.

Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term deal in January, just over six months after suffering cardiac arrest during last summer’s European Championship, and excelled in the second half of the season, playing a key role in helping the Bees comfortably avoid relegation. The Reds are the second favorites to sign him, just behind his former club Spurs.

Jarrod Bowen – 10/1

Considering United want to bolster their right-wing options this summer, the Reds could do much worse than turn their attention to West Ham United star Bowen. The England international has enjoyed an exceptional 2021/22 campaign for the Hammers, scoring 18 goals and collecting 13 assists in all competitions.

He was one of the Premier League’s most improved players during the campaign, so the Hammers would want a small fortune to consider parting ways with him. At 25, its price will only continue to rise if it continues to perform on its current trajectory.
