Sony will add three more PS4 tournaments to the open series
Sony is adding three new PlayStation 4 tournaments to the Open Series section of PlayStation Tournaments. Tekken 7, Guilty Gear, and Automatic failures will all be added to the games list next month.
The first of the new tournaments to start will be Tekken 7. The first qualifier will start on July 7 and more qualifiers will take place every week. Guilty Gear qualifying will follow on July 9 while Automatic failures starts July 11. In qualifying, players will face four opponents of similar skill based on their playing record so far. If they qualify for the monthly final, they will then face the best players of the month.
Those who complete all four qualifying matches in any title will get a base theme and avatar from that game and PS4 tournaments. Ranking in the top 40% earns an elite theme and avatar for this game and PS4 tournaments. Arriving first will earn you $ 100.
Those who arrive in the top 16 of any of the four Open Qualifiers will be placed in the monthly finals. All entrants here will receive a PS4 Tournament Champions Theme and Avatar. Fourth place receives $ 100, third place $ 200, and second place $ 300. Coming first will earn that player a champion theme and avatar of that title, as well as $ 400.
Automatic failures will also offer additional prizes. The first 20 players to register and participate in the tournament will receive a single Gold Donut Box. The next 80 players to participate will receive five Silver Donut Boxes. The player who comes fourth in the monthly finals will get 1000 Donuts and their choice of a chess piece skin from the in-game store. Third place will get 2000 Donuts and a chess piece skin, while second place place will get 3000 Donuts and a chess piece skin. The player who arrives first will get 5,000 Donuts and their choice of chess board, player, or piece skin from the in-game store.
PlayStation Tournaments were launched in 2016 and offer players a chance to win prizes that include PlayStation accessories and hardware. The Open Series was added in 2020 and aimed to make competitive games more accessible by adding tournaments for more diverse titles. All tournaments are accessible through the PS4 console or through the Competition Center and players must have a PlayStation Plus account in order to participate.
