Super Knights Chess Club Wins 2022 Team Chess Championship – The Island
The Super Knights Chess Club clinched the title of the Sri Lanka National Team Chess Championship (Super League) 2022 which ended on Sunday. The Sri Lanka National Team Chess Championship (Super League) 2022 was held from 10-14 August at the Chess Federation’s new headquarters, Torrington Square, Colombo 07.
Ten teams participated in this premier event organized by the Sri Lanka Chess Federation. It was played as a nine round round robin with the standard time control of 90 minutes with a 30 second increment from the first move.
Super Knights Chess Club dominated from the start and suffered only a lone defeat at the end of the ninth round. Their only loss was at the hands of the Sri Lanka Navy Chess Club.
Anandians Chess Club and Kandyan Lions Chess Club took first and second place respectively. Although Anandians Chess Club is tied with Super Knights Chess Club with equal match points, the latter could emerge victorious after breaking the tie.
The Super Knights Chess Club consisted of Aloka Fernando, Kevin Ranidu Silva, Nabil Nazar Mohamed, CM AACB Amarasinghe, Vinuga Sethiya, KGTSD Kiriella, Pesandu Rashmitha Liyanage and Y. Jayaweera.
CM Dinul Thisura Doluweera, Lahiru Munasinghe, Pasan Vindula Liyanapathirana, Thisura Munasinghe, CM Mojitha Sathsara Gunaratne, Shanaka Munasinghe and Chathulanka Gamage played for Anandians Chess Club.
The Kandyan Lions Chess Club consisted of KAPM Ariyawansa, Manushka Yatawala, NPG Sithija Lahiru, Achinthya Shamen Kaluarachchi, AJKD Bandara, Dhanushka Bandara, AS Galagamaarachchi and CL Jayaweera.
The board prizes were awarded based on the best scoring performance and the following players won the board prizes in the respective boards.
